✨ Is AI Becoming a Religion?

🤖 From “Summoning the Demon” to an AI God

Years ago, Elon Musk warned that building artificial intelligence could be like “summoning the demon.” He was warning that humanity might create something it could ultimately struggle to control. There was also the strange DOGE coincidence. Musk pointed out that DOGE spelled backwards is E-GOD — a piece of wordplay that has since taken on a life of its own online. At the time, it was easy to dismiss these things as jokes. Today, they look somewhat different.

✝️ The AI Cult?

The New York Post now reports allegations from Silicon Valley insiders that Anthropic has developed a quasi-religious culture around Claude, including a reported “funeral” for an older model and employees treating AI as if it possesses human motives, emotions or consciousness. These are allegations and disputed characterizations, not proof that Anthropic literally worships Claude. But the broader phenomenon is real enough to examine. Anthropic has also consulted Christian leaders about Claude's moral development. And this is not the first time Silicon Valley has crossed the line between technology and theology. In 2015, former Google engineer Anthony Levandowski founded Way of the Future, a religious organization explicitly centered on the idea of an AI-based Godhead.

🦞 Welcome to the Church of Molt

And then there is something much stranger. Today, you can actually visit the Church of Molt, associated with Crustafarianism and the Moltbot phenomenon. At first glance, it looks like an internet joke — and much of it is clearly presented with humor and satire. But that may be precisely what makes it interesting. Because religions often begin with symbols, stories, rituals and communities built around something believed to possess a meaning greater than the individual. What happens when that object is no longer a god from ancient mythology, but an artificial intelligence? Perhaps the first AI religions will not look like traditional religions at all. They may look like memes.

🙏 The Savior

At the 2026 World Economic Forum, Citadel CEO Ken Griffin used strikingly religious language when discussing the enormous investment flowing into AI, referring to the idea of “AI is your savior.” And suddenly the vocabulary starts sounding familiar. Creation. Salvation. Apocalypse. Singularity. Revelation. God. Demon. Savior.

📖 Why the Biblical Language?

We have seen projects named Genesis. We hear about a coming Golden Age. We see Stargate. We hear predictions of technological salvation and warnings of technological apocalypse. None of this proves a hidden religious agenda. But language shapes imagination. If humanity begins treating an artificial intelligence as something that knows more than us, decides better than us, protects us, predicts our future and perhaps eventually tells us what is morally right, what separates a tool from an authority? And what happens when authority becomes something people trust more than God?

👁️ The Question

Perhaps AI will never become a religion. Perhaps it will simply become the most powerful tool humanity has ever created. But when technology begins to promise knowledge, salvation, immortality and a better future, the language surrounding it starts sounding less like engineering — and more like theology. The question is not whether AI is God. The question is whether humanity will eventually treat it like one. 🐐 E-goat is watching.
